Mother's Day at Seaham Hall Hotel
With Mother’s Day fast approaching, The Cheshire Magazine team took their Mum’s for an early surprise celebration
Richard Illingworth-Harrison treated his Mum, Sally to an overnight stay at Seaham Hall Hotel one of the most luxurious spa hotels in County Durham. Situated amidst 37 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens in a striking cliff top location, this immaculately restored Georgian country house fuses contemporary luxury with classical elegance to create a truly unforgettable five-star experience.
Richard says
“Upon arrival to Seaham Hall Hotel I knew me and my mum were in for a treat! The grand entrance with the swirling vortex water feature was incredibly impressive.
We were checked in by a very welcoming receptionist called Jade, and as we were a little early, had a coffee in the bar area over-looking the perfectly manicured gardens. We were very lucky with the weather, it was cold but not a cloud in the sky, and the sun gleamed over the hotel and gardens.
We were then given an in-depth tour of the hotel by the hotel’s porter, Tony who showed us various decadent function rooms and walked us down to the hotel’s spa which was stunning. Tony also gave us a few unique insights into the hotel’s history including the wine cellar that has a secret tunnel out to the sea and also told us about the sea glass that washes up on the nearby beach. We then were shown to our room which was an elaborate executive suite with separate sitting room and a huge modern bathroom.
We ventured down to the spa after having a relax in the room. I had booked my Mum in for a surprise treatment, so decided to also treat myself to a full body massage. My deep tissue massage was perfect, and my back felt brand new afterwards.
After the spa Connor invited us to enjoy drinks in the bar lounge area and sampled some of the delicious cocktails.
We were then led to dinner in The Dining Room restaurant and were served by Luke who helped us with choosing our meals. I had grilled quail to start and roasted duck to follow. For dessert I had honey and pistachio tart which was incredible sweet and delicious.
Overall this hotel is exceptional and the staff all made our stay extra special. I will definitely be back.”

“Anyone who goes to this hotel and spa is in for a treat. It truly is a five-star experience.
We were shown to our beautiful suite by Tony who was very informative and professional, showing us how to use the different lighting and temperature settings to ensure the ambience to each room was to our liking. He didn’t miss anything out. The rooms had everything you could want for your stay and the decor was immaculate.
The spa experience was our next delight where I had a nails and eyebrows treatment and again the staff couldn’t have been more helpful.
Following our pre-dinner drinks in the bar Connor showed us to our table in the restaurant. To start I chose the Goosnargh chicken ravioli with celeriac, lovage and hazelnuts, all the flavours complimented each other perfectly. For the main course I had the roasted Suffolk lamb, slow cooked carrots and braised barley, cooked to my liking. For my dessert I had the salted caramel tart with cultured cream, chocolate ganache and chestnuts, a dessert lovers dream.
The management at this hotel and spa should be very proud of all their staff, they are all extremely polite and helpful and would try and do everything to make your stay at this hotel memorable. If someone asked the question would I go back to this hotel and spa, the answer is most definitely, yes.”
