The Kracht Family - Baur Au Lac

Part of The Leading Hotels of the World, Baur au Lac has been owned and operated by the Baur-Kracht family since its founding in 1844. Today, Andrea Kracht and his daughter, Marguita Kracht, who joined the business in 2022 as the seventh generation, continue to balance a deep respect for heritage with a forward-thinking approach.

Situated within its own private park in the heart of Zurich, with views across Lake Zurich and the Swiss Alps, the hotel offers 119 rooms and suites, three distinctive dining venues including the recently launched Mediterranean restaurant Marguita, as well as a state-of-the-art fitness centre and the exclusive Baur au Lac Vins wine shop. Just moments from Bahnhofstrasse, the Tonhalle and the Opera House, the hotel remains a family-led destination where discreet service, Swiss elegance and a strong sense of place continue to shape the guest experience more than 180 years after opening its doors.

The Scherz Family - Gstaad Palace

Opened in 1913 on a hill overlooking the alpine village of Gstaad, Gstaad Palace is one of Switzerland’s most celebrated grand hotels. With its fairytale silhouette and mountain views, it has welcomed royalty, heads of state, artists and international tastemakers for more than a century.

The Scherz family has shaped the identity of the hotel for nearly nine decades. Ernst and Silvia Scherz first took over the management of the hotel in 1938, before acquiring ownership in 1947. Their son, Ernst Andrea Scherz, led the Palace from 1969 to 2001, elevating its international reputation. Since 2001, third-generation hotelier Andrea Scherz has guided the property, continuing the family tradition of hands-on stewardship while carefully modernising the hotel for a new generation of guests. Under his leadership, Gstaad Palace remains one of the last great independently owned luxury hotels in Europe
