My Experience
I was familiar with Edgar House as it was a former hotel and has won many awards, including the ‘Number 1 Small Boutique Hotel of the World’ in the Tripadvisor Travelers Choice Awards in 2016. I had never had the chance to visit but was so intrigued to find out what made a little place in Chester so special. I was overjoyed to hear it had turned into a self-catering holiday home, offering hotel style and comfort, and the ability to enjoy this fabulous house exclusively for you and your friends and family.
We arrived on a lovely sunny afternoon and immediately noticed the view and close proximity to the river as we parked up. As we entered the property we took in the quirky artwork, tall ceilings and the long hallway leading to a grand spiral staircase with the most beautiful chandelier. Edgar House really has a way of making you feel special from the moment you walk through the door and you get an instant feeling this will be a memorable stay.
Down the impressive staircase you arrive at the large dining and seating area with the well-equipped kitchen and pantry off the side. This really is the heart of the house with a large TV, original large fireplace and a large U-shaped cosy sofa, with windows wrapping the whole room giving you views of the historic walls and river below. From here you can go outside to the private walled garden area which has several areas, a beautiful dining area for al fresco meals with a view, or cafe style tables and chairs conveniently close to the bedrooms, or cosy seating areas for evening sundowners.
Once back inside we ventured downstairs to be met with a games room complete with an air hockey machine, which made us feel slightly nostalgic, and a jukebox which connects directly to your phone. At the end of the corridor a cosy large cinema room, ideal for watching a film or like my partner did - a football match!
We took advantage of their concierge service and ordered a freshly prepared three course meal that was delivered, ready to dine later that evening. This was truly delicious, and gave us a top end restaurant experience within the comfort and grandeur of the dining area of the house: the best of both worlds
There are so many things that make this house so special, I would need a whole issue to list them all, however, you really do need to go and experience it for yourself you most certainly won't be disappointed.
Personal Note
Edgar House is just waiting for you to celebrate a birthday, enjoy a family or friends’ getaway or a trip to Chester Racecourse. Whatever you decide to do here will be unforgettable, we promise!
