Laura Garner celebrates culture in the capital with Radisson Blu
As someone who studied in London (London College of Fashion to be exact) and has spent much of my career weaving in and out of the capital’s buzzing creative circles, it’s fair to say that London holds a special place in my heart. I’ve always been swept up in its energy, but usually from the fast lane. So, to take a step back and truly absorb the city’s art, culture, and culinary finesse, and to do so from the elegant base of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Leicester Square, was a rare treat.
The experience was beautifully curated from start to finish, combining artistic exploration with the kind of hospitality that makes you instantly exhale. The Radisson Blu itself is the perfect urban sanctuary. Refined, stylish and sublimely located around the corner from the National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery, it sets the tone for a cultural city escape that feels both indulgent and inspiring.
Our journey into the arts began with a visit to the Moco Museum London, a contemporary space just opposite Marble Arch, which brings together some of the most provocative and influential names in modern art. Wandering through rooms featuring works by Warhol, Haring, and Banksy, I felt transported back to my first experience of the Moco brand in Amsterdam and later in Barcelona. The museum strikes a balance between accessibility and impact, offering thoughtful curation that feels both fresh and immersive. It’s a bold and brilliant start to any cultural itinerary.
From modern rebellion to classic refinement, the next stop, The Wallace Collection, was an equally captivating experience. The elegant townhouse setting, complete with exquisite paintings, decorative arts, and period furniture, is one of London’s quieter gems. It invites you to slow down and soak in the opulence of a bygone era and serves as a striking contrast to the streetwise edge of the Moco.
In between these artistic pursuits, the food offered by Radisson Blu was a star in its own right. The afternoon tea at Bond Street Tea Rooms was a masterclass in elegance, with delicate sandwiches, innovative desserts, scones and super cute canapés like a tuna cornetto, which have to be tried to be believed. A mouthful that melts the moment it meets your tongue. Later, dining at the Leicester Square Kitchen introduced me to contemporary Mexican and Peruvian dishes bursting with bold flavours and modern flair. The menu is imaginative and vibrant, as is the tableware and atmosphere, reflecting the global spirit of the city itself.
Evenings at the hotel’s Skyline Penthouse, cocktail in hand, watching the skyline shimmer – it doesn’t get much better. It’s one of those rare spaces where the atmosphere is both glamorous and relaxed. Whether you’re sipping a smoky mezcal, a classic martini or champagne like us, the views and the vibe do all the talking. Mornings have equal allure from this attractive location – a stunning sunshine walk around Green Park was the perfect way to kick-start the day (running is optional, of course) and get the metabolism ready for a delicious breakfast back at base.
The Radisson Blu has created something truly special with this celebration of art, culture and refined hospitality. It reminded me that London is not just a city to work in or rush through; it’s one to savour. And from the heart of Leicester Square, with impeccable service and stunning experiences on offer, there’s no better place to do exactly that.
