Kingsmead School to Hold Virtual Open Day for Prospective Parents

On Saturday 23rd May Kingsmead School will host a Virtual Open Day to provide an opportunity for prospective parents and pupils to view the school and its facilities, from a distance during the coronavirus lockdown

Parents and guardians who book on for the online Open Day will be able to hear more about Kingsmead’s individualised approach to learning and its reputation for inclusive education, along with more information about the school’s academic excellence and enhanced learning programme, and the recognised benefits of having the smallest class size in Wirral (typically less than 16).

Those who book in online will be able to listen to a welcome address with Headmaster Mark Gibbons. They will also have access to a series of β€˜Meet the Teacher’ videos and be able to log into bespoke webinars with staff and senior leaders that are relevant for their child/children, including members of the school’s fully CRESTED accredited Learning Development Unit. There will also be an opportunity to listen to testimonials from existing parents, as they would during the normal Open Day format.

Headmaster at Kingsmead School, Mark Gibbons, said:

β€œWe are delighted to be able to offer a Virtual Open Day to parents who are keen to find out more about what Kingsmead has to offer. Schools have had to adapt quickly during the coronavirus crisis, but we are working together with our skilled IT team to help prospective parents to look forward to the future and to find out more about the fantastic opportunities available here.”

The staff at Kingsmead are dedicated and highly-trained to support children to discover their passions and develop their strengths, including those with more specific learning needs including dyslexia. They are experienced in supporting pupils to settle in and to build confidence and self-esteem in a nurturing environment, where their emotional health is of utmost importance.  Kingsmead School recently celebrated winning the prestigious Genius Within β€œMost Inclusive Education Provider 2020” award.

Early Years education is available from Kindergarten to Reception (ages 2 to approximately 5 years) with 30 hours government childcare funding now available, and the school’s wrap-around care includes boarding (full time, flexible and ad-hoc), free after-school enrichment clubs and reasonably priced holiday clubs with excellent facilities including a 20m swimming pool and sports playing fields.

During the coronavirus crisis day to day learning has also gone online for pupils with a full and flexible timetable of live lessons including online β€˜form time’ and bespoke one to one support sessions. There have also been online exercise classes, baking inspiration and craft groups for pupils and staff, to help to maintain connection and promote wellbeing.

The school already invests well in technology and aims to inspire pupils to become digital leaders. Kingsmead has recently been awarded a certificate of recognition of membership to the Microsoft School Program which works to improve accessibility, collaboration and communication, and increase digital skills in the classroom.  The IT department has celebrated several prestigious digital accolades recently, with a Year 11 student being selected for the National Semi-Final of the Matrix Cyber-Security Challenge 2020, and 13 students achieving β€˜Inspiring Digital Enterprise’ Awards, with all Key Stage 3 students now working towards this fantastic qualification.

Pupils at Kingsmead enjoy the use of brand new, state of the art Virtual Reality viewers and Augmented Reality programmes, where they can create their own video games that interact with the world around them. A free after-school club focusing on β€˜game design’ has also been running at full capacity for several terms.

Digital Leaders are regularly invited to visit Kingsmead to inform and inspire pupils. For example, in recent months β€˜The Regional Organised Crime Unit’ delivered a careers talk and Q&A session on Cyber-security and the Computer Misuse Act, and Dr Amen Bakhtiar from Liverpool University provided a β€˜Machine Learning & Robotics’ workshop.

The Virtual Open day will take place on Saturday 23rd May from 10-11am.
