My Life - Larry Walshe, Founder & Creative Director at Larry Walshe Studios
How would you describe yourself?
I’m 6ft 1, tan easily, a proud dog dad, creative yet analytical, am often found running around with a camera when not working and I have no dietary requirements!
Where is home? And work?
Home is currently between London and NYC. I split my time and travel a great deal for work as we are the first event designers and florists to operate on a truly international platform from three locations worldwide. We work extensively throughout the UK, Italy, France and the USA so more often than not, I’m found at a departure gate in the airport or running around setting up a wedding somewhere beautiful.
I love that my work allows me to see so much of the world which is one of my great passions and I always try to explore a new location after I have completed a project.
What did you want to be when you were younger?
A popstar! Like many young kids, I definitely paraded around with a straw behind my ear pretending it was a Britney microphone until I realised that perhaps that wasn’t my destiny. I actually trained as a professional dancer and performer and worked in that industry before moving into design. It was only due to an accident that I had to re-evaluate my career path and, always certain I wanted to do something in the creative arts in some form, I found myself working in the events industry. Floral design seemed to find me and once I was exposed to this world where anything you can imagine is possible to create; I was hooked!
Name a few of your favourite places to be...
I am originally from the Lake District and love to return as often as possible. It is one of my favourite parts of the UK with undeniable beauty to be discovered, no matter how many times you visit.
In Europe, currently I am exploring various parts of Italy. I love the architecture and all the history that is embroidered into the very tapestry of their culture.
What or who inspires you?
People with a strong drive and work ethic; often women, juggling both life and career and finding a way to spin a thousand plates at once. I am always so in awe of how they manage to achieve so much and have an attitude where anything is possible that it truly motivates me to try and do the same.
What was the last gift you gave someone?
Cookies from my favourite bakery in New York; Levain. They are, quite simply, the most delicious treat you’ll ever taste and each time I return from the USA, I bring a large tin back for my whole team to enjoy.
Tell us a secret/fun fact?
I am obsessed with Nutella and will eat it directly out of the jar with a spoon whenever I am feeling stressed.
Who or what would you place in room 101?
Vuvuzelas. Can’t stand them!
What’s the one song you have on heavy rotation?
Natasha Bedingfield; ‘These Words’. It’s my serenity song.
What podcasts have you been listening to lately?
Diary of a CEO and Newlyweds.
Your mastermind subject?
Musical theatre shows.
Over the years, you’ve collaborated with a distinguished clientele, including celebrities such as Rihanna, Adele, Stella McCartney. Can you share some of your favourite experiences?
I am so fortunate to have worked with some incredible individuals and brands during the course of my career. Each one brings a new challenge and has helped to shape the designer I am today; I am always so inspired by other creatives that I love to work collaboratively in order to create a scheme which is truly unique and meaningful.
How would you incorporate the ‘Pantone Colour of the Year 2025’, Mocha Mousse, into floral designs?
This year is such a beautiful and delicate colour to work with. We have some exceptional flowers which have a nude/mocha hue which are simply stunning when combined with other vintage tones. We always love to work sensitively with the environments within which we decorate so this look is ideal for blank contemporary spaces that require softening and also historic properties which respond fabulously to vintage notes.
What’s been your biggest life lesson?
As a designer, I have learnt that whilst it can be somewhat uncomfortable and often challenging to constantly evolve and adapt with trends, it is both necessary and rewarding in order to remain at the forefront of a competitive and dynamic industry.
