My Life - Nicola Myers, Business Development Manager at Chester Race Company
Where is home? And work?
I live in Chester city centre, and I’m based at Chester Race Company HQ next to Chester Racecourse. I travel all over in my role meeting clients and I’m based at Chester and Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse on their respective race days.
What would you do to improve the area you live in?
I feel very fortunate to live in such a great city. Chester is thriving, particularly with its foodie scene, which I very much enjoy! And with retail on the up and Harrods soon to open, we have everything on our doorstep. I’m just a five minute walk from work and just a short drive from where I grew up - the stunning North Wales and we have amazing links to Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and London.
What did you want to be when you were younger?
This changed often! I was obsessed with fashion and style magazines growing up and as a result, studied ‘Fashion Marketing & Communications’ at university, which I enjoyed. I found that I favoured the marketing and comms aspect, which lead me into events and PR. That said, I still love fashion and shopping and working on fashion partnerships in my current role is one of my favourite things; including setting up style shoots, like the one for the 2025 Boodles May Festival Style Guide collaborating with Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, Boodles and The Cheshire Magazine.
Is there one aspect of your life that your 18 year-old self would be shocked at?
Definitely, I never thought I would work in sport, having avoided PE class throughout school, and I have done it for the majority of my career.
Name a few of your favourite places to be...
I love a beautiful beach. White sand and clear water soothe me. If I had my way, I would just live on the beach. Whether it is a relaxing yoga retreat and surfing in Fuerteventura, on a yacht eating fresh seafood in Cuba, or partying in Ibiza - I love it all.
What was the last gift you gave someone?
A hair and body care set from Rituals as a birthday gift. I love going in their new big Cheshire Oaks store; their products smell so amazing and remind me of my first holiday in Asia.
Tell us a secret/fun fact?
I have a five year old chihuahua called Luna. I love taking her on walks, whether in Grosvenor Park and along the River Dee or on the beaches in North Wales or the Wirral. She is very friendly and energetic and tends to get lots of attention, so walks can take a long time!
What podcasts have you been listening to lately?
‘Feel Better, Live More’ with Dr Rangan Chatterjee. I love his content. It’s practical, well-researched and I always take something away from an episode.
What’s been your biggest life lesson?
You never know what is around the corner and how long you have with the people you love. My life has taken some very unexpected and traumatic twists and turns over the last decade. It has been difficult but taught me that you must make the most of every moment and enjoy life.
