With an existing clinical décor, the main challenge of the refurbishment for designer Michelle Sims was to marry the clinical requirements of the business with a welcoming and tranquil place to visit.

The aim was to create an experience that will be unforgettable for the customer, to evoke calm and tranquility, thus reflecting the brand values of the new owner. Inspiration came from nature and how nature can reflect the stages of skin treatments. It was important to use naturally soft and warm materials to balance the technology.

From the moment you walk in, the design has been considered – the mission to take clients on a journey. As you enter the clinic, you are greeted by a sensory experience, a subtle fragrance invites you in, with a floral display which is surrounded by hues of grey and contrasting concrete wallpaper, welcoming you to DD Clinical. The acoustics have been improved by the addition of soft carpeting to the entry stairs.

Once you have arrived at the first floor a small seated area uses soft grey walls to frame and compliment the blue crushed velvet designer chairs, an inviting niche to the reception area.

The main waiting area provides various styles of comfortable furniture, a striking feature of this space is the contrast of materials. On one side there is a moss wall which is softly lit and on the opposing curve is a flowing chain link curtain which creates layers in the space.

A separate relaxing lounge uses the harsh textured concrete wallpaper to imitate the feeling of before a treatment, while the velvet grey chaise evokes the effect of softness achieved after treatments. Timber furniture brings the whole design together, giving a feeling of being in nature and calmness. Colours are incorporated with the light blue globe pendants and contrasting mustard cushions.

Finally, the lighting throughout has dramatically changed the atmosphere by removing the harsh commercial style downlighting within the false ceiling and replacing with subtle linear LED.

The result is a calm and inspiring experience for professional treatments and service.
