Prestons Expands Patek Philippe Presence in Wilmslow

The Cheshire Magazine takes an exclusive tour of Prestons Wilmslow’s new Patek Philippe space, celebrating a friendship between this iconic watch brand and the Cheshire-based jeweller, that has now spanned two decades.

Wilmslow-based jewellers Prestons, has this month unveiled a new expanded Patek Philippe space at its flagship Wilmslow showroom, reinforcing the strong partnership between both independent brands.

Officially opened by Thierry Stern, President of Patek Philippe, during a recent visit to the UK, the 117m2 space introduces clients to one of the last independent, family-owned watch manufacturers and its iconic collections, across two floors. Designed in keeping with Patek Philippe’s distinct architectural style, the new expanded area features cream marble flooring and hammered bronze details throughout, with dark woods, gold cabinetry and comfortable, neutral upholstery.

The ground floor presents client-focused serving areas which are seamlessly connected to Prestons’ art-deco inspired Wilmslow space. As clients ascend the cream marble staircase, they are greeted by a comfortable and private VIP lounge, along with a secluded library overlooking the town’s high street.

Adorned with historic, rare handcrafts prints from the Patek Philippe archives that demonstrate the brand’s remarkable heritage and artistry, the new space perfectly reveals Patek Philippe’s attention to detail and luxurious interiors.

The new area also features a piece of engraved art, sculpted by a French artist whose work is only seen in a select number of Patek Philippe boutiques in Qatar, Dubai, Rome and now Wilmslow, making it the first UK boutique to do so. Patek Philippe took inspiration from mathematician Alan Turing, most known for his work to crack the Enigma Code during the Second World War. Turing was chosen as the inspiration for this piece due to his local connections, having lived in Wilmslow in his later life. His selection posed a challenge for the artist due to the mathematical and technical nature of Turing’s work, however the result is a unique piece, with a variance of shapes and circles, inspired by the Enigma Coding.

Of this latest opening, Karl Massey, Managing Director of the Prestons Group commented, “Our relationship with Patek Philippe is not just commercial, it is deeply personal. Two family businesses with the same objectives and values. Prestons are proud to have represented Patek Philippe in Cheshire for over 20 years and more recently in Norfolk. It was a great honour for us all to welcome Mr Stern, the President of Patek Philippe, to Wilmslow for the official opening of our new boutique in the presence of so many of our collector friends.”

Adrian Lurshay, Managing Director of Patek Philippe UK added, “I feel honoured to celebrate our partnership with Prestons with the opening of the new Patek Philippe area at their Wilmslow store. Patek Philippe and Prestons have a long-standing relationship, and the same commitment to offer the finest ambience and the best service to our clients. The beautiful new space spread over two floors at the Wilmslow store reflects this strong and solid relationship.”

Meet the Team

John Critchlow, Showroom Manager, Prestons Wilmslow

What are you most excited about following the opening of new space?

Our newly expanded space presents us with an expanded area in which we can introduce clients to Patek Philippe’s remarkable collections. Each watch tells its own special story, and it is a privilege to guide clients on their own Patek Philippe journey in such an incredible new space. It is also a proud moment for us, due to the uniqueness of the space, which demonstrates just how strong our partnership with Patek Philippe is.

What makes Patek Philippe special as a brand?

I would say it is their dedication to their creations. Patek Philippe are deeply invested in every timepiece that they make. They have made a commitment to service every single watch since 1839, and will continue that tradition for centuries to come. If they don’t have the parts, they’ll make them. That level of lifelong service sets them apart.

Do you have any advice for someone who wants to learn more about the Patek Philippe collection?

Part of the joy of picking out your first watch is learning about the whole collection. I would always recommend keeping an open mind, as the watch you initially fall in love with may not be the best fit once you see it in person. It is always best to have a selection of models that you may be interested in exploring.

I’d always encourage new clients to visit us in store before making any decisions. The team and I are here to guide you through the Patek Philippe collection, and our new space is the perfect environment in which to experience these watches at their best.
