Sep 9 Project Porsche Restoracing

In November 2017, Porsche Centres across the UK were invited to take part in the Porsche Restoracing Competition 2018. Each team was tasked with sourcing and restoring a 986 Porsche Boxster S to racing standards, choosing a historical Porsche racing livery and then carefully selecting a novice driver from within their team.

Since then, Porsche Centre Wilmslow has been hard at work to restore and ensure their car is race-ready and raring to go. First, the team decided on livery inspired by the legendary Salzburg colour scheme, which truly succeeded in making the car stand out on the track.

The Porsche Centre Wilmslow team then chose Alistair Nelson, their Parts Leader, to drive their Restoracing car across all three race weekends. Alistair has worked at the Centre for 23 years, and benefits from previous racing experience, having completed a number of races in his own Porsche 944 S2, which he has been developing and working on for the past 10 years.

Porsche Centre Wilmslow placed 5th in both races across the weekend at the iconic Brands Hatch GP circuit on their track debut in May this year. At Silverstone GP circuit in June, the team matched this success, finishing 5th and 4th, which once again made for an excellent weekend of racing. The finale at the beginning of September saw the team take to the Brands Hatch Indy circuit where they, once again, achieved 5th across both races.

Alistair Nelson, the driver for the Wilmslow Restoracing car, has since commented:

“It has been an amazing experience both building and racing the car. The Restoracing project has given us the opportunity to show our skill sets and passion for the product. Both our race technician Sam Beckett and crew chief Geoff Worth have done a fantastic job in producing and running a competitive and reliable race car. We have all enjoyed the experience and look forward to next season.”

Overall, the team are extremely pleased and proud of their achievements in this year’s competition.
