Putting You In The Picture
Jaine Briscoe-Price on getting the most from clients, shooting in the great outdoors and working with the best wedding venues in the North West
Over the last 25 years, Jaine has developed her style to encompass creative portraiture, from new additions to the family to large family get-togethers and weddings. She also offers confidence-boosting shoots such as teen makeovers and boudoir sessions at her studio.
How do you work with your clients to get the best out of them?
Putting everyone at ease is the key, plus having confidence in what I am going to create and a vision of the finished imagery. I encourage people to be themselves. Most clients need simple, relaxed direction that they can interpret to convey who they are. This removes those stiff poses and fixed smiles, whilst still producing flattering, timeless pictures that will be enjoyed for years to follow.
One of the very best parts of my role is seeing the emotional reactions at my private cinematic viewings; last week I had brides crying reliving their amazing day, grandparents dabbing tears watching their family’s interactions during the photoshoot and equine mums sobbing as they saw images of their beloved horses and dogs appear on screen.
You have produced some stunning rural shoots – what do you enjoy about shooting in the great outdoors?
I grew up in the countryside, so every day delivers a different backdrop. Each portrait session might create a memory for a particular family so I happily take commissions at client’s homes across the North West, in the Lake District, in Anglesey or wherever they want to capture their lasting memories.
You’ve worked in every major wedding venue throughout the North West. How do you work with couples to keep wedding shoots unique?
We are so blessed with the most amazing wedding venues in the North West, and I have been fortunate to work in so many. Initially, a couple will meet with me to see if our styles suit. Once booked, I include a complimentary pre-wedding location photoshoot; it’s the perfect way to get to know them a little more; to see them in front of my lens and give them the gentle tips and direction that will ensure their wedding photography is perfect.
Timing is key on a wedding day, so I suggest a time plan that will encourage them to glide through the day, enjoying every moment yet enabling me to capture the stunning images that will be designed into an Italian wedding book. This very personal approach is what builds our relationship and keeps their wedding imagery unique to them.
Digital files are now the norm; however, I have stayed true to my initial profession and prefer to design a bespoke wedding album rather than hand over a USB of files which will sit in a drawer and be forgotten about within a few months.
Photographs are a moment in time that is captured forever, which we can revisit time and time again, so why leave that memory in a drawer?
