ROAM Across Europe This Summer
Emma Norman and Elaine Slater, Founders of ROAM, share their top three European destinations for the summer
This summer, it’s all about travel that feels considered as well as indulgent. From the pine-fringed shores of the Athens Riviera to Portugal’s effortlessly cool Comporta and the slower, soulful side of Hvar, these are ROAM's top three destinations for summer, European edition.
Athens Riviera, Greece
For a summer escape that blends culture with coastal ease, the Athens Riviera offers something truly special. Stretching along the Aegean just outside the capital, this is a destination where beach days meet ancient history, with the iconic Temple of Poseidon providing one of the most magical sunset settings in Greece. It’s perfect for those who want more than just a fly-and-flop, with the option to dip into Athens for world-class dining, culture and shopping.
Stay at: Grecotel Cape Sounio
Set within a protected pine forest overlooking the Temple of Poseidon, this refined resort blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings. Private villas, tranquil beaches and exceptional service create an effortlessly luxurious stay.
From approx. £450–£650 per night, with ROAM packages including flights and private transfers available.
Comporta, Portugal
Just an hour south of Lisbon, Comporta is Portugal’s best-kept secret; a place where understated luxury meets raw natural beauty. With vast sandy beaches and a laid-back, bohemian feel that’s reminiscent of Ibiza before the crowds. Days here are beautifully simple: beach hopping, long lunches and slow evenings under the stars.
Stay at: Sublime Comporta
A design-led retreat set amongst pine forests and wild landscape, known for its eco-residences, organic gardens and relaxed, barefoot luxury. Sustainability is woven throughout, without ever compromising on style.
From approx. £600–£900 per night, with ROAM packages including flights and private transfers available.
Hvar, Croatia (Stari Grad)
For a more considered take on Hvar, the island reveals its quieter side around Stari Grad; a UNESCO-listed harbour town surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and crystal-clear coves. Away from the well-known party scene, this part of Hvar offers a slower, more authentic rhythm, ideal for those seeking a refined yet relaxed summer escape.
Stay at: Maslina Resort
Rooted in “mindful luxury”, this beautifully curated resort blends contemporary design with a deep respect for nature, with holistic wellness, locally sourced cuisine and a peaceful setting that feels completely removed from the everyday.
From approx. £500–£750 per night, with ROAM packages including flights and private transfers available.
