Jun 17 Spotlight On : The Fishpool Inn, Delamere

Kat Hannon visits the best for a pub lunch for all the family

Admittedly I was asked, along with my family, to review the Sunday lunch at The Fishpool Inn but due to the state of tiny mind (which is what you have when you have two kids, a dog, a husband and a business) I somehow disregarded this fact and allowed the family to choose anything from the menu. Well, that was the best mistake I ever made.

Around our comfy, spacious table sat four adults and two children aged six and one. From an unusually extensive menu, we all chose something completely different. I went with the Thai Red Curry, which was beautiful. I had the delicious prawn option, and the dish was full of vegetables and just a hint of spice (heat). We had classic fish and chips on the table, which was devoured. A burger, again, a clean plate, and skewers, which I also sampled in exchange for a bite of my dish and the meat was cooked beautifully.

The kids had sausage, chips, and peas, and the wee one had penne pasta. An incredible sauce, hats off to the sauce chef, both dishes kept them quiet throughout. A result! Every dish was perfect. Significant portions, dare I say I had some left, and as I mentioned earlier, it was incredibly impressive to have such a wide range on the menu and for all the dishes to be a success. Well done Fishpool Inn Chefs, truly.

Rewinding a little bit, The Fishpool Inn is located in one of Cheshire’s most magical locations, Delamere, with the Delamere Forest car park a mere two minutes, drive away. Here you can get out and walk it off, or in fact, earn your meal. We walked with the family for a couple of hours after lunch and had a lovely afternoon. The peaceful scenery and fresh air combined with great food, made it the perfect Sunday experience.

The Fishpool Inn is super easy to find off the A54 and offers plenty of parking. They have a huge wrap around garden, and outdoor seating area for alfresco dining and the staff were charming when we arrived and looked after us throughout. Even though our table was cosy and private, we also felt very looked after.
