To celebrate World Book Day 2021, 11 year old Martha Topp reviews a new title - Amari And The Night Brothers from author B.B. Aliston

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

B.B. Aliston lives in North Carolina in the USA. He started writing in Middle School entertaining all his classmates. He had just been accepted into a biomedical graduate program when a chance entry into a contest became the beginning of his authoring career and his debut middle grade novel.

WHO ARE THE CHARACTERS?

The main characters are Amari, Elsie and Dylan. They are all smart characters, but I liked Amari the best, not just because she was the main character but because she was strong when everybody bullied her. She was determined to reach her dream. Dylan was like a hero to Amari when they were partners - he helped Amari and protected her from any dangers. Elsie is Amari’s best friend. She is a bright Weredragon but everybody thinks she is just weird and loves learning. It’s true that she loves learning but she is a very strong character also protecting her friend from dangers at any cost. All three characters work as a team when trying to find Amari’s lost brother all whilst trying not to leave anyone behind.

WHAT IS THE PLOT?

I’d class the book as an adventure story, set in the present day. The main events took place at Berau (This is a supernatural secret society, but you must read to find out!). I can picture every scene because the description is very imaginative and feels real. When I close my eyes, I can vividly picture the story and I still have dreams about it after I finished the book. There were twists and turns that kept me hooked and always wondering what would happen next, it was a real page turner. I couldn’t get Amari’s adventures of my mind! There is one plot twist at the end of the book that I didn’t like, but you have to read to find out what happens! The main plot is a girl who goes to a supernatural institute where she starts the search for her lost brother. She discovers things she never would have seen before.

WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL OPINION – WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO FRIENDS?

I was really excited to read this book and when I started reading it, the story just got more and more addictive. This book is probably now my favourite book so far, overtaking Jaqueline Wilson and that takes some doing! I loved this book so much - it isn’t one I would naturally pick, but I really enjoyed the story. So much to the point, that one night I had to tell myself to stop reading and put it down. So, I put the book down and turned off the light… looking at the book, it was as if it was staring at me saying “Read me Martha...”. So that’s what I did. I picked up the book and started reading again even though I knew my parents had gone to bed. I have already recommended this book to all my close friends, but I would also recommend this to anybody who loves adventure. Amari Amazing!
