What is COP26 and what does it mean for companies like ESE Group?
Words: Gary Fredson, CEO ESE Group
What happens when you get delegates from each country on earth that has signed up to attend this yearβs Climate Change Conference? The answer is usually a lot of worthless, empty promises that will never come to life. This year, things MUST be different. World leaders must listen and acknowledge what is happening to our planet. This is no time for politics or personal agendas. The world needs to see real action, and fast, as time is running out.
The latest annual UN Climate Change Conference β COP26 took place in November in Glasgow. The Conference of the Parties (COP), and the summit was attended by the countries that signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) β a treaty that came into force in 1994. This year, young people had the chance to have their voices heard with delegates from around the world.
What we want to see come out of the climate summit, is an even bigger push into the use of renewable energy in particular Solar Energy and Electric Vehicle charging. We have a real opportunity as a country, to be a standout leader in Green Energy and show the rest of the world how itβs done.
UK businesses and households, need to embrace renewable energy β in particular, the sleeping giant that is Solar Energy. Saying that more ambitious plans are needed is one thing, but this passion and enthusiasm has to come from our Government. They need to wake up, visualise Solarβs potential and lead by example for the public to understand that this commitment it real.
Fossil Fuels have been used since 1880 to power homes and industries but will soon become a thing of the past. Theyβll be assigned to the history books as an energy source that nearly destroyed the planet. Energy and the technology used to produce it, has come a long way in over 100 years and we no longer need to dig and damage the earth to produce it.
Imagine being able to use the most abundant energy source that mother nature has to offer, for free. The Sun generates enough energy in just one hour, to power the planet for an entire year and best of all there is no harmful emissions given off, no drilling, or digging required and its available day in day out. Nearly 6 million people in the UK think that Solar Panels require direct sunlight to produce energy. This is myth, as they only require daylight to generate energy.
Its more cost effective than itβs ever been to have a Solar PV system installed in your home or workplace. The benefits they can bring to your energy bills and the environment, speak for themselves. We help thousands of households right across the country to take the first step into self-sufficient energy production. Combine that with an ESE Group Battery Storage system, and you can use the energy that youβve generated during the day from your solar panels, right into the evening.
ESE Group are UK leaders in Renewable Energy Solutions. β contrary to the Daily Mirrorβs, scam busting journalist, Andrew Penmanβs opinion. We have more than 7,000 very happy customers, and the recent verdict of the upheld IPSO investigation against him and The Daily Mirror, was a very welcome piece of news, in whatβs been a very challenging 18 months for businesses in UK.
We work with several partners and companies from all over the world, to make sure that weβre at the forefront of bringing innovative products like modern, high-spec battery storage and award winning EV charging points to the UK.
Petrol and Diesel engines give out huge amounts of air-pollution and greatly contribute to having an adverse effect on our climate. To us the solution is Electric, but more needs to be done in addressing the issue around the UKβs infrastructure into EV Charging.
EVβs are becoming more and more popular, and designs are finally becoming sexy, just take the Audi e-tron GT as an example, its simply stunning. As the market shifts towards even more EVβs being on the road, itβs only a matter of time until weβre at a point where there are not enough charging points to go around. Since 2015 the UK has seen over 25,000 new EV Charging points installed, but the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) have advised that the UK will need 10 times as many by 2030. At many service stations, EV chargers can be βtemperamentalβ for drivers. There are far too many apps which require a registration process to work, some give out slow charges when quoted 150kw and in some cases, they donβt even work.
We think thatβs why home EV Charging points will be so crucial. ESE Group work with various manufacturers including CITA Smart EV Chargers and MyEnergi to offer affordable home installations through the Government Grant Scheme.
We highly recommend both CITA and Zappi as home EV Charging points. You can set your car to charge at night to run off your battery storage system or move onto a EV charging tariff from a green energy provider like Octopus Energy to make it more affordable. You donβt need Solar to use an EV Charger but if you have it, you could charge your car for free.
