Prestbury family hosts gala Hollywood ball to raise funds for epilepsy

A Prestbury family is pulling out all the stops and putting on the glitz with a charity ball in aid of epilepsy. The Rankin family are hosting the third One in a Million Ball to honour their late daughter and sister Carla, who died from epilepsy. The black-tie ball unites the local and business communities to fundraise in her memory.

Taking place on Saturday 1 June in Manchester’s Hilton Deansgate, the Hollywood-themed night will raise vital funds for national charity Epilepsy Action. As well as a three-course dinner, highlights include a set from singer-songwriter Alex Stewart, casino tables and red-carpet themed games. A silent auction includes original and limited edition paintings and a night’s stay at the Principal Hotel, Manchester. Amongst the luxury raffle prizes is a diamond pendant worth £1,000. Tickets are £75 each

Carla Rankin died in 2014, aged just 27, as a result of her epilepsy. Since then, her family and friends have been fundraising tirelessly to support people living with the condition. Their mission is to raise £1 million in Carla’s name, and so far they have raised over £133,000 from countless events far and wide, from marathons to acoustic nights. Team Carla’s work has attracted the attention of Ant and Dec and First Dates’ Fred Sirieix.

Denise Rankin, Carla’s mum, explained. “There are three epilepsy-related deaths a day in the UK and epilepsy is one of the top ten causes of death in young people. We’re determined to raise awareness and more funds to help prevent more deaths like Carla’s and so many others. Every year we try to go bigger and better, and this year’s One in a Million Ball is no exception. It’s a night when the community comes together, not only to support us and remember Carla, but to raise fantastic amounts for Epilepsy Action. We are so grateful to everyone who has donated to these events and supported Team Rankin so far. Please buy your tickets for this brilliant night, with dancing into the small hours and so much more!”
