Contemporary architecture created in sync with its surroundings, thanks to some clever design from Annabelle Tugby Architects
Annabelle and her multi award winning team create everything from a beautiful bespoke piece of furniture all the way through to hotels and apartments. A contemporary architecture practice specialising in high end residential work they bring a collaborative approach to architecture, interior design, landscapes and project management.
The practice has grown over ten years working throughout Cheshire and Manchester, with each new project carefully chosen and treated with great care and attention. A thoroughness of process runs through the studio and this, together with a friendly and inclusive approach means planning applications and building projects always run smoothly. Hand-made physical card models, sketches, computer generated imagery and CAD drawings are used throughout the process to test all designs thoroughly and ensure they are truly the ideal design solution.
The studio believes that interiors and furniture design are key to the delivery of the whole package and as such one-off furniture pieces are offered alongside the more traditional design services. Bespoke items are hand-made by a talented joinery team based in Macclesfield who can turn their hand to almost anything.
The team also works closely with a variety of talented experts in their fields to accompany and complement their work. At Waterbank the team worked tirelessly to design the landscaping and gardens together with a landscape architect. Aiming to retain the beautiful, wild existing landscape and anchor each house in its plot with well-placed native planting and the sensitive use of hard landscaping. In the wider site, mown paths invite exploration through meadows of long grasses and wildflowers.
Nestled in the idyllic village of Prestbury, 15 miles south of Manchester, Waterbank is located in a hidden woodland site and is an exemplar of sympathetic architecture seamlessly integrated into its natural surroundings. A pair of ancient oak trees are preserved with the buildings sitting softly in the voids between, providing a peaceful backdrop and complete privacy.
Waterbank is a private development of five high-end contemporary new build houses by Property Alliance Group, an exacting client with high standards and a great track record in the industry. Each dwelling has been carefully designed to maximise the opportunities of each plot and angled towards the best views.
Annabelle notes: βIn each property light played a key part in the conception of the housesβ design, resulting in a group of buildings characterised, on the outside, by faceted timber forms, nestled between the trees and, on the inside, by high-ceilinged living spaces, imbued with natural light.β
The love with which this development has been designed is apparent, from the use of exceptional materials right through to the finely crafted minimalist details. Each home offers an expanse of open plan living space designed to enhance modern family life but also a sequence of in-between rooms which create more intimate spaces for living.
The special plot called for a response to the shape of nearby tree canopies, root protection areas and the pond on site. The result, a set of exceptionally sculptural houses with pale brick plinths, large areas of glazing dappled by beautiful timber louvres, all under cranked natural stone roofs, is unique.
