Fashion Forward - Royal Ascot

With Royal Ascot fast approaching in June and because I’m already styling my private clients for this, I thought this month I would give you a clear ‘do and don’t’ guide to the dress codes for men and for women per enclosure

THE ROYAL ENCLOSURE:

Ladies

  • Dress and skirt hemlines should be just above the knee or longer

  • Dresses and tops should have straps of one inch or greater (strapless, off the shoulder, halter neck, spaghetti straps and sheer fabric straps and sleeves are not allowed)

  • Trouser suits are allowed, however, the suit must be in a matching colour and full length

  • Jumpsuits must adhere to the same rules as dresses (see above)

  • Hats must be worn, however, a headpiece with a solid base of 4 inches or more in diameter is acceptable as an alternative (Fascinators are not acceptable)

 

Gentlemen

  • Morning dress is required in either black, grey or navy

  • A waistcoat and tie is required (no cravats or bow ties)

  • A black or grey top hat

  • Black shoes worn with socks

 

QUEEN ANNE ENCLOSURE:

Ladies

  • Formal attire is required

  • A hat, headpiece or fascinator must be worn at all times (strapless, off the shoulder, halter neck, spaghetti straps and sheer fabric straps and sleeves are not allowed)

  • Trouser suits must be full-length (non-matching colours allowed)

  • Jumpsuits should fall below the knee and must adhere to the neckline regulations above shorts are not allowed

  • Midriffs must be covered

 

Gentlemen

  • Full-length suit with matching colour and pattern

  • Collared shirt and tie (no cravats or bow ties)

  • Socks must be worn and should cover the ankle

  • Jeans, chinos and trainers are not permitted

 

VILLAGE ENCLOSURE:

Ladies

  • Formal attire is required

  • A hat, headpiece or fascinator must be worn at all times (strapless, off the shoulder, halter neck, spaghetti straps and sheer fabric straps and sleeves are not allowed)

  • Trouser suits must be full-length (non-matching colours allowed)

  • Jumpsuits should fall below the knee and must adhere to the neckline regulations above, shorts are not allowed

  • Midriffs must be covered

  • Please note, as the Village Enclosure is a grassed area, wedges or block heels are advised in place of stilettos

 

Gentlemen

  • Full-length trousers and jacket

  • Collared shirt and tie, bow ties or cravat

  • Socks must be worn and should cover the ankle

  • Jeans and trainers are not permitted

 

WINDSOR ENCLOSURE:

Ladies & Gentlemen

Whilst there is no dress code, it is advised that smart daywear is worn with a hat or fascinator for ladies.
