Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Opera House Manchester
Katie Barrell visited The Opera House Manchester to watch the multi award-winning Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
As the musical returns to Manchester audiences could be forgiven for thinking I have seen that already, and itβs going to be a cheesy singalong, but from the beginning the high energy from this cast enthralled and the reality is a breathtaking performance of high quality theatre.
Adam Filipe is outstanding as Joseph, his voice is so powerful and during the scenes from the prison as he sings the audience were made to feel the intimacy of being in that space with him.
As the narrator Christine Bianca is the perfect dichotomy of storyteller and comic, taking the audience on the journey, captivating the audience with not only the range of her voice but the transformation into other characters. Rarely will you come across such a talented performer who can sing as a male and female, in a range of accents and every note be pitch perfect.
With big expectations from the audience, and for many the nostalgia of those that have come before, Joe Mcelderry has a big pair of shoes to fill as he takes on the role of pharaoh. I think everyone would agree he didnβt disappoint and was obviously having fun in the part.
The perfect antidote to the dark wet cold nights, be transported to the Middle East, and be prepared to be on your feet for the mega mix finale.
