Know where life can take you

Neil Turner took over as Head of Investec Wealth & Investment’s Liverpool office in April 2023 and has more than 20 years’ experience of working with private individuals, charities, pension funds, trusts and professional intermediaries.

We asked for his expert view on the big financial issues of the year ahead.

This next year or so will see a UK election with a potential change of Government and new legislation coming into effect while interest rates could start to fall. It will have an impact on your finances and it’s tempting to make changes for the sake of doing something.

“But at Investec Wealth & Investment in Liverpool, my team and I are focused on building long-term wealth for clients. We have been based in the city for more than 200 years, so we have experience of the importance of committing to the long-term and not reacting to short-term issues.”

Is the start of the year a good time to review your finances?

If it helps people to get started, then that’s great. We provide an expert investment management service as well as wider financial support with retirement income, estate planning, pension advice and help with school fee planning and nursing care.

We’ve got a 20-plus strong team based in St Paul’s Square and offices throughout the North West. They are backed by the wider Investec Wealth & Investment and Rathbones Group with offices all over the UK, so clients benefit from the expertise of a major company.

But we know clients value the personalised local touch which is what we also deliver. Relationships are the heart of our business whether we are working with individuals or their families. It is not only about recommending investments but also about supporting clients and their families so that wealth can be passed down generations.

What opportunities are out there for investors?

We are always on the lookout for new opportunities. As we are part of the UK’s leading wealth manager, we have the research expertise to look at overseas markets and not just the UK markets which had a tough 2023.

What’s your long-term outlook?

Stability is crucial for your wealth and that means focusing on ensuring you have enough money to retire on or that your wealth will be preserved for your family.

Stability is crucial for us too and we look forward to at least another 200 years in Liverpool. Call me and my team on 0151 2372 109 for a no-obligation chat about your needs and how we might be able to help.

The value of investments and the income derived from them can go down as well as up and you could get back less than you originally invested. Your capital is at risk
