My Life - Sarah McGrane, Operations Manager at Randox Health
We chat with Sarah McGrane, Operations Manager at Randox Health
How would you describe yourself?
An early riser, constantly at 1 million miles an hour both personally and professionally. Passionate. An obsessive dog mom and dog auntie.
Where is home? And work?
Home is Liverpool, one of the greatest cities in the world. Work is mostly in and around the North West. Sometimes London, sometimes Belfast, but you will usually find me in our North West clinics and laboratories.
What would you do to improve the area you live in?
Not specifically the area I live in, but the UK in general, we just need more sunshine and more warm weather. No better improvement.
What did you want to be when you were younger?
A politician. I never followed it through post university, however what I will say is I am great in a debate.
Name a few of your favourite places to be...
It is hard to beat being out in nature walking my Miniature Schnauzer, Buddy, whether that be down the canal, at the beach or in the Lake District.
Ruby’s Wine Bar in Ormskirk is a favourite, dog-friendly during the day for a spectacular coffee and cake or wine and cocktails, listening to the great live music over the weekend.
Eating out wise, I love a good seafood restaurant. Lobster Club in Portal Nous in Mallorca and TheBold Octopus in Portugal are hard to beat.
Where do you like to holiday?
I got married almost 10 years ago in New York City, so that will always be somewhere we return to and be super special. Then Mallorca at least once every summer and also the Middle East for the all important winter sun.
What or who inspires you?
My husband and Jurgen Klopp equally. My husband, Nikki, due to his resilience and no-nonsense approach to business, Jurgen, as I think as leaders go, he is just unmatched and definitely the style of management I agree with. Both passionate and relentless!
What’s the one thing that propelled you?
Our rapid clinic expansion, specifically our retail partnerships with John Lewis & Partners and Holland & Barrett. At the time of writing, we currently have 49 clinic locations across the UK & ROI. We also have a further 13 due to open in the next couple of months, making private healthcare more accessible than ever.
What was the last gift you gave someone?
Victoria Beckham Colour Wash Drops to my friend David. They are unmatched and the woman can do no wrong.
Who or what would you place in room 101?
People who eat smelly food on the 6am Avanti West Coast to London Euston. Unnecessary.
What podcasts have you been listening to lately?
Recently renamed to ‘The Bossticks’, previously called ‘The Skinny Confidential’ – this is a great listen for all things health and wellness. They have great guests and deep dives into a lot of health trends, but also have validated chats with scientists, doctors and so on.
For light relief and to look like an idiot laughing to myself in the car, always ‘The Therapy Crouch’ and ‘My Therapist Ghosted Me’. Never missed an episode of either.
Your mastermind subject?
Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights.
What’s been your biggest life lesson?
Health really is wealth. Seeing friends/family become poorly really emphasises the need for preventative healthcare. Looking after yourself is key and the work we do at Randox Health is an important factor in protecting your future health. We recently advanced our technology to the point where we release results to our Everyman/Everywoman health check 2 hours from the time a sample hits our laboratory, which is just phenomenal.
