My Life - Helen Bent, Head of Marketing at Bents Garden and Home

How would you describe yourself?

A structured, organised person (I have to be with 4 children aged from 7-16 years and working), that also likes to increasingly rebel from structure and plans to have fun. But that said...I do like a plan, especially a fun one!

Where is home? And work?

Home is Culcheth, which is a village close to Bents in Glazebury.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

A teacher; my mum and her sisters were all teachers, but I am actually so glad that I did not do this now, having 4 children at home. I find work to be a nice break.

Name a few of your favourite places to be...

I like a simple life. I love being outdoors in the fresh air and love our family trips away in our tourer caravan. We have driven to France in it a few times and we do lots of UK trips and festivals – Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire being a favourite.

I love Australia, I travelled there a lot when I was younger, post-university. I’ve visited pretty much the whole country via Greyhound bus, staying in hostels.

These days one of our favourite places abroad is Val Do Lobo in Portugal, as my parents live there now. We all holiday there together - myself, my siblings with our partners and all of our children – 14 cousins in total on the Bent side. We love going out there together and spending precious time with each other and with my mum and dad.

Anglesey, especially the Four Mile Bridge and the Treaddurr Bay area, also hold a special place in my heart, as I spent a lot of time there with family and friends when we were younger. It was my dad’s place to go to relax when he got some rare time off work.

I also eat and hang out a lot in Bents even when I am not working, meeting friends or going in with my family. We all love a Bents brunch and my teen children especially love our winter food market that we run at Christmas time. I love meeting my friends in our tapas bar; our food in all of our dining destinations is homemade from scratch and is so tasty. I love getting a glass of wine to accompany it in Tapas – a great excuse!

Who or what would you place in room 101?

Litterers! Littering seems to happen so much more now and so much larger rubbish items appear to be just dropped or left, even when bins can be nearby. It just makes places look so bad and is not good for wildlife.

What’s the one song you have on heavy rotation?

I love 90’s dance music. My son Louis, who is 14 has great playlists featuring all the songs from when I was younger, despite him being far too young to have experienced them. I love ‘Degrees In Motion - Do You Want It Right Now (The Ruby Turner Remix)’.

What podcasts have you been listening to lately?

My most recently listened-to podcast was ‘Raising Good Humans with Dr Aliza’, I also love the ‘Teenagers Untangled’ podcasts.

Your mastermind subject?

Fashion! I love it. I use Pinterest to create inspiring fashion boards.
