My Life - Lisa Hibbert, Ancillaries & Car Parks Director at Manchester Airport

We chat with Lisa Hibbert, Ancillaries & Car Parks Director at Manchester Airport

How would you describe yourself?

I would describe myself as ambitious, hardworking and always on the go. As a busy mum of three, life is definitely full, but I thrive on balancing family, work and making time for the things I love. I’m a huge foodie and enjoy discovering great new restaurants and sharing meals with friends and family. Running is my reset button – it helps me switch off, recharge and keep a healthy balance alongside a busy lifestyle. It was a great experience to take part in the annual ‘Runway Run’ at the airport.

Where is home? And work?

Home is Saddleworth. I’ve lived here for around 15 years after meeting my husband, and it’s great - fresh air, lovely local villages and brilliant walks on the doorstep.

For work, I am based at Manchester Airport, where no two days are the same. It did take me a while to stop feeling jealous of all the passengers arriving at the airport to start their holiday, when I was arriving for a day at work.

Name a few of your favourite places to be...

I love the countryside, and we head to the Lake District regularly as it’s hard to beat the scenery and we enjoy hiking and kayaking on Lake Windermere. That said, I’m just as happy with a cosy night in and a good film and I now have the perfect excuse to rewatch all the classic Disney favourites with my children.

What city breaks do you enjoy?

In the UK, I love a trip to London - it takes me straight back to my childhood when we would visit regularly and often see a West End show. Further afield, Rome is incredible as there’s so much history to explore (and amazing pizza!). Barcelona is another favourite too; I love a bit of people-watching and it’s the perfect city to wander and soak up a different pace of life. I also recently went on my first extreme day trip, where I went on a girls’ day trip to Geneva. It’s amazing what you can pack into one day: sightseeing, a bit of culture, and of course, good food and drink, plus a visit to the Lindt shop and, naturally, a few purchases.

What was the most indulgent holiday you’ve been on?

Our honeymoon, an incredible 16 day cruise around the Caribbean Islands. We treated ourselves to a suite, which came with some lovely extras, including access to speciality dining and a Captain’s champagne reception. We even had a butler, although I was far too embarrassed to ask for anything, so he probably had the easiest job on the ship.

Tell us a fun fact about Manchester Airport?

Mine has to be role-related - Manchester Airport’s Meet & Greet operation is the largest in Europe, and one of the largest in the world, with over half a million passengers choosing the service every year as their way of travelling to the airport. On its busiest day last summer, we parked almost 5,000 cars in secure storage, and over one million car “movements” are made every year!

What travel-related nuisance would you place in room 101?

It has to be the people who stand up the second the aircraft lands and then rush to be first off the aircraft, despite the doors still being closed and the seatbelt sign often still on.

Do you have any travel hacks to share?

Wear your best socks - just in case you need to remove your shoes at security!

What travel experience is on your bucket list?

New York is definitely on my bucket list. My husband regularly reminds me he’s already been (annoyingly, it was the month before we met) and says how amazing it is, so I’m determined it’s my turn next.
