Lisa and John Curran at Heswall office launch

Tell us a bit more about you...

I’m Lisa Curran, co-owner of Currans Unique, a specialist estate agency based in Chester, focused on distinctive, high-value homes across Cheshire, the Wirral and North Wales.

My love of property started with investment, but over the years it has become much more about people, lifestyle and storytelling. Every home has a reason someone fell in love with it, and our job is to understand that, then present it in a way that connects with the right buyer.

I live by the River Dee with my husband John and our children, Eva (21), Solomon (17) and Joseph (15), so Chester and the surrounding areas are not just where we work. They are part of our everyday life.

How would you describe the current prime propertymarket in Cheshire?

The market is active, but more considered.

There is still strong demand for beautiful, well-positioned homes, especially those with privacy, character, land, views, or access to good schools and lifestyle locations. But buyers are more selective than they were a few years ago. They are taking their time, comparing carefully and expecting quality.

What do you love most about the properties in Cheshire?

The variety and the sense of place.

Cheshire has such a rich mix of homes. Georgian townhouses, country houses, barn conversions, period cottages, contemporary new builds, riverside homes and hidden village properties.

I love homes with layers. A great view, original features, mature gardens, beautiful proportions, outbuildings, a strong setting, or a clever contemporary addition. Cheshire does that very well.

For clients relocating from the south or overseas, what aspects of Cheshire homes tend to surprise them most?

The value, the space and how connected Cheshire is.

People relocating from the south are often surprised by how much more they can achieve here, not just in terms of house size, but gardens, privacy, parking, outbuildings and lifestyle.

Overseas buyers are often drawn to the character. Period buildings, village settings, mature landscapes and homes with real architectural interest. Cheshire offers a very English sense of history, but with excellent schools, restaurants, transport links and access to the countryside.

If you became Housing Minister for a day, what would you change?

I would make the process of buying and selling much clearer and more certain.

Too many sales take too long, and too many people feel anxious because they do not know where they stand. I would like to see more upfront information, faster conveyancing and a system that gives buyers and sellers greater confidence earlier in the process.

What are the best ways to refresh a home before putting it on the market?

Start with the basics.

Declutter, clean properly, touch up paintwork, tidy the garden, clean the windows and make the entrance feel welcoming. Buyers notice small things. Loose handles, tired paint, poor lighting and clutter can all affect how a property feels.

Then think about warmth and lifestyle. Style the kitchen, dress the table, make the main bedroom calm, freshen bathrooms, light fires if you have them, and show outdoor spaces properly.

You need to make the home feel cared for, clear and easy to imagine living in.

P.S.

What’s your average weekend like?

Family, the River Dee, probably some champagne, and usually a bit of work.

We spend a lot of time by the river and on the boat when we can. I love being in Chester at the weekend, walking by the Dee, seeing friends, eating out, or having everyone back at home.

What’s your dream property purchase?

Something on the water. A beautiful riverside or coastal home with views, character, space for family and friends, and somewhere to sit outside in the morning with coffee or in the evening with a glass of wine.
