#1 Spatial Planning
When planning a kitchen, the first thing to consider is; how do you use this space? Most families spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so it is only natural that this space needs to meet the requirements of being both functional and an inviting environment for socialising and entertaining. Bearing this in mind, it is important when planning a kitchen, you consider the flow of the space. Making sure that your movements within the kitchen are at their most efficient. So, planning pan drawers, pantry cupboards and placement of dishwashers, cookers, and fridges are crucial.
#2 Kitchen Islands
Kitchen islands are still a huge trend in kitchen design and are a great way of creating a central hub within a kitchen. Currently, dark islands and dark cabinetry with light work surfaces is making a big impact in the interior world. Think monochromatic black with crisp white granite and you are on to a winner. Essential to the functioning of an island, comfortable seating is a must. Upholstered barstools with comfortable backs are a great way of bringing a textured or patterned element into your kitchen.
#3 Lighting Design
When planning a Kitchen, it is crucial to think about your lighting design, nobody wants a blinding bright kitchen, but similarly, a kitchen that is not lit well enough is a complete disaster. Which areas need the most lighting? And what is the most logical layout? This will include inside cupboards, over your cooker or hob, over your dining area and the kitchen bar or island. Spotlights are great for in alcoves and dotted strategically on the ceiling, whilst motion activated led strips or spots are ideal for inside pantry cupboards and inside deep drawers. Feature lighting is essential in a kitchen, be it modern or traditional in style, it creates a focal point and can add great impact to the space. Finally, lighting colour is also important, we would generally recommend using a warm white light throughout the house, preferably with a dimmer option, as this allows you to create different levels of ambience. Warm white light dimmed beautifully is great for when you just want to chat and enjoy your kitchen in the evenings.
