The business is owned and managed by the ladies of the Harty family, Shannon and Catherine Harty, who possess a wealth of knowledge and experience, offering grieving families the reassurance and peace of mind that their loved ones’ wishes will be carried out with care and compassion.
Shannon found her calling in the profession after the loss of someone close to her and is one of only 85 funeral directors in the entire country to hold the Level 4 University of Greenwich Diploma, the highest qualification in funeral service.
The two family members bring a distinct leadership dynamic and perspective to a traditionally male-dominated industry. Shannon says: “We’re proud to be a woman-owned funeral directors, but we don’t believe the care we provide comes down to gender. It comes down to the values we live by every day: kindness, compassion and treating every family as we would our own.
“We take the time to listen because every family is different. It’s important to us that people leave feeling supported, understood and confident they’ve given their loved one the farewell they wanted and deserved. That’s what matters most.”
In an era where corporate chains are prevalent, Shannon highlights the importance of being an independent, family-owned business: “At Hartys, we are not part of a large corporate chain. We are a family-run funeral directors, and we live here in Chester too. When someone sadly passes away, people don’t want to feel like a number or a name on a system. They want to speak to someone who knows them, listens to them, and genuinely cares. Being independent means we can take the time to understand every person, every story and every wish, and provide the very best care we can.
She continues: “Our name is on the door, and our family is the one standing beside you. We are here through every step, offering comfort, guidance and reassurance when it matters most. For us, this is more than a business. It is about caring for the place we call home, supporting the Chester community we are part of, and keeping kindness, trust and compassion at the heart of everything we do.”
