Transcending Trends Guncast Pools and Wellness

With a global reputation for creating the most luxurious swimming pools and spas in the UK, Guncast Pools and Wellness know a thing or two about trends – and how to expertly design, craft and deliver projects that exceed expectation in every way

Swimming Pools & Wellness is an ever-changing sphere, and, like every industry, can be trend-led at times.

With core values of professionalism, creativity, innovation, and integrity, alongside a dedication to end to end care, Guncast has become the first choice for discerning clients looking to create their perfect swimming pool and wellness facility.

The pool trends of 2024 reflect a desire for luxurious, personalised, and functional swimming experiences - as technology and design continue to evolve, trends are likely to expand, offering even more innovative solutions for homeowners and businesses looking to create the ultimate aquatic retreat. Guncast provides a run through of some of the most popular requests they’ve seen so far this year.

Basement Conversions

Converting basements into luxurious pool areas is a growing trend, particularly in urban settings where space can be limited. These underground oases provide a private, year-round swimming experience that can be tailored to fit the homeowner’s preferences. Basement pools often feature advanced ventilation and dehumidification systems to maintain air quality and comfort, and Guncast are experts at carefully selecting and advising the very latest technologies to ensure quality water and air flow in every space. Design elements such as LED lighting, glass walls and modern finishes transform these spaces into sleek, contemporary retreats. Additionally, basement pools can be integrated alongside home gyms, spas, and entertainment areas, creating a comprehensive wellness and leisure suite in what is often unused space.

Outdoor Heated Pools

Outdoor heated pools are becoming increasingly popular as homeowners seek to extend their swimming season and enjoy their pools year-round – the summer of 2024 is likely to incite even more commissions in the coming months! Innovations in heating technology, such as energy-efficient heat pumps and solar heating systems, make it easier and more cost-effective to maintain comfortable water temperatures even in cooler climates.

A recent outdoor project is one of Guncast’s most calm, peaceful, and tranquil builds yet. Designed to be the focal point of a new, beautifully designed landscape and to replace a tired, existing pool with something elegant and modern, the design incorporates clever atmospheric lighting and a deck level overflow system. The pool is heated using an Air Source Heat Pump, and the automatic cover also has solar properties, reducing heat loss whilst also heating the pool.

Infinity Pools

Infinity pools, also known as vanishing edge or negative edge pools, continue to be a popular choice in 2024. These pools create a visual effect where the water appears to extend infinitely to the horizon, providing a stunning aesthetic that blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Advances in materials and construction techniques are making infinity pools more accessible and customisable, allowing for creative designs that enhance the visual impact and overall ambiance.

The Guncast Pools and Wellness team recently designed and constructed a distinctive, boutique-hotel-inspired swimming pool for a private property. Clear glass was used to create an infinity edge and the fantastic teal glass pool tiles give it a striking finish. The swimming pool’s modern shape and design complements the gorgeous garden landscaping and fits well within the space, making use of the natural levels of the garden.

The client wanted a functional pool and separate vitality pool, that could be enjoyed all year round. This swimming pool provides a space for relaxing, exercising and socialising. The infinity edge pool also acts as an impressive water feature, visible from the house at all times.

Pools in Listed Buildings

Integrating pools into or around listed buildings presents unique challenges and opportunities. Listed buildings, protected for their historical and architectural significance, require careful planning and execution to ensure that any modifications are sympathetic to the original structure.

In 2024, there is a growing trend of incorporating pools in a way that respects the heritage of these properties while adding modern luxury. This might involve restoring and repurposing existing water features, such as old fountains or ponds, into functional swimming pools. Alternatively, new pools are designed to be minimally invasive, using materials and construction techniques that blend seamlessly with the historic architecture. These projects often require close collaboration with conservation specialists and adherence to strict regulations to preserve the building’s character and integrity, an area in which Guncast has extensive experience.

Developing a Wellness Suite

Why stop at just a pool? With the world of wellness continuing to expand, more and more clients are looking to expand their leisure facilities to include a world-class sauna, steam room and ice cabins, befitting a 5* hotel. As part of the KLAFS Group, Guncast have exclusive access to the beautiful range of award-winning products to enhance pool and relaxation areas. KLAFS is the world’s leading sauna manufacturer and is a powerhouse in designing thermal journey experiences, such as saunas, steam rooms, ice lounges, foam steam, just to name a few – they push the boundaries of wellness experiences, innovating new and exciting products to inspire.

A stunning indoor pool, spa, steam room, Japanese bath, and cold plunge pool was recently created working alongside the talented team at Yiangou Architects, with amazing results. A 20 metre centrepiece swimming pool is perfectly complemented by a custom-designed luxury KLAFS steam room. The steam room is oval-shaped with fixed doors and a flat ceiling, giving a contemporary and light filled aesthetic.
