Metro Bank grows regional presence with its new store opening on Foregate Street
Metro Bank has officially opened its 76th store in the heart of Chester, bringing its award-winning, people-first approach to Foregate Street. At a time when many banks are closing high street branches, Metro Bank is doing the opposite - opening new stores and putting face-to-face service back at the centre of banking.
The Opening Ceremony, held on Friday 4th July, welcomed an array of special guests and marked the beginning of a new chapter for the city. The ribbon was officially cut by Samantha Dixon, MP for Chester North and Neston, and The Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Sherin Akhtar, alongside Metro Bank executives and store team members.
Supporting Local Businesses
The event was a true community celebration that included a two-day Fan Zone - a nod to Metro Bank’s partnership with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The long-term partnership will deliver transformational growth to women’s and girl’s cricket communities across England and Wales, through the Metro Bank Girls in Cricket Fund.
Locals enjoyed giveaways including branded bucket hats and tote bags, while local business Krum Gelato delighted visitors with complimentary sorbets, showcasing Metro Bank’s commitment to supporting independent traders.
Metro Bank’s Local Director, Lisa Wortley, commented: “It has been great to have such a warm welcome from the Chester community. Today is a milestone for us as we grow our presence. We’re ready to serve Chester with our in-person relationship banking and business support and in turn drive local economic growth.”

Convenient Banking
Each store provides corporate, commercial and SME banking and specialist mortgage lending, alongside retail and private banking services. In each Metro Bank store you can meet face to face with a dedicated Local Business Manager, who is there to support you and your business. It’s banking designed for convenience, open Monday to Friday from 9:30am to 5pm, and Saturdays from 9:30am to 4pm.
Relationship Banking
Ahead of the official launch, Metro Bank hosted a business networking evening, welcoming entrepreneurs. and local leaders from across Chester. Among the speakers was Jamie Christon, CEO of Chester Zoo, who applauded Metro Bank’s commitment to the high street: “This is an exciting moment for Chester. In a time when many high street banks are closing their doors, Metro Bank is opening theirs. That decision speaks volumes. It shows a commitment to people, to local connection, and to the belief that physical presence - real people behind real counters - still matters.”
Samantha Dixon MP echoed those sentiments: “It’s a real pleasure to welcome Metro Bank to Chester city centre. Their commitment to being a true community bank is a fantastic addition to our high street - offering not just vital banking services, but a friendly face and real support to local people and businesses.
