Katie Barrell visited The Palace Theatre in Manchester to see the dance extravaganza Saturday Night Fever
Last night we stepped back into 1977 and the world of disco with Saturday Night Fever set within the perfect back drop of the Palace theatre Manchester.
The story of Tony Manero a struggling Italian American teen trying to make a life in Brooklyn while perusing his passion for Disco dancing on a Saturday night in his local disco club. Tony and his friends face the daily challenges but all this melts away on the dance floor where they can truly be free and temporarily forget the realities of life.
With the iconic music of the Bee Gees as a back ground they tell you their story, all the audience were truly captivated and heads were bopping as it was hard not to want to get up and join the cast through out the disco scenes.
A special mention must go out to Jack Wilcox, taking on the lead role he owned every step. His dedication to the small details made Tony Manero come alive on stage. You get the sense that he was born to play this role. A heartfelt moment from Harry Goodson-Bevan who plays Bobbie C and his rendition of the well known song Tragedy had you willing his situation to change, you really did feel for him.
The whole cast commitment to show was adamant from the very start, they were clearly having the best of time on stage and because of this the energy inside the theatre was electric. You found yourself swept away with the music, staging, lighting and of course the large disco balls completed the impact.
A standing ovation at the end was enviable, a fabulous night of entertainment and one that comes highly recommended and not to be missed.
Saturday Night Fever is showing at the palace theatre in Manchester until 1st October, please do not miss out!!
