Katie Barrell visited the Opera House in Manchester to see the fun filled and hilarious Shrek The Musical
Showing at the Opera House in Manchester this August, Shrek The Musical brings the magic of the original film to the live stage. A show for all the family and well timed to be showing within the school holidays, this is certainly one not to be missed.
Shrek is a different type of fairytale where the hero of the story is an ogre! His sidekick is a talking donkey and they are both tricked into going on a quest by Lord Farquaad to rescue a beautiful princess from a dragon's castle...and the adventure begins.
With each of the much-loved characters from the movie making their mark on the stage, the show exudes massive energy, brilliant comedy and catchy songs throughout.
We saw stand-out performances by Anthony Lawrence as Shrek, who really makes this role his own. His performance was outstanding. Joanne Clifton as Princess Fiona, who I have to say has impeccable comedy timing and can belt out those high notes. James Gillan as Lord Farquaad, who audiences are meant to dislike, but we all agreed that we wanted to see more of him as he had us all laughing out loud and Brandon Lee Sears who took the role of Donkey to the next level.
The whole show was performed by the cast and crew with infectious joy as they brought the story to life. They received a well-deserved standing ovation at the end.
If you know and love this fairytale, this show cannot be missed. And if you don’t...then be prepared to be drawn in and utterly amazed.
