The North Wales Coast Line For Life's Big Moments

The North Wales Coast Line For Life's Big Moments

With more trains than ever along the coast, big birthdays, anniversaries, hen dos and weddings are just a stop away

‘Tis the season to be celebrating.

In this summer of hen dos, anniversaries, engagements and weddings, Transport for Wales just added another reason to celebrate. In one of the most significant timetable changes in a generation, Transport for Wales are strengthening links between the North Wales Coast and Liverpool via Chester, with around 50% more train services and more regular journeys.

That means you can look no further than the North Wales Coast Line to host your next big life event – no parking, traffic, or bribing of designated drivers involved.

For The Big Birthday

Treat someone (or yourself) to the perfect day out this summer for their birthday. If it's fine dining you're after, Röski in Liverpool is a sparkling choice – featuring a classy tasting menu, thoroughly Instagrammable presentation, and seasonal food. And with no city centre parking to worry about, you can put down the RingGo and pick up the wine – no designated driver necessary.

The Chester Grosvenor is the obvious choice for a big birthday, or you could even head to Bodysgallen Hall restaurant in Llandudno for a classic afternoon tea. Or if you're in the area and looking for more dramatic views, you could take the cable car up to the Great Orme and visit the Kashmiri goats at the top.

For The Perfect Hen Do

The obvious choice simply must be Liverpool. By taking the train, you'll arrive straight into the heart of the city, the entire group can travel together, there's no splitting into taxis, and everyone can have a drink from the start.

Head down Bold Street and the Baltic Triangle for independent bars and eateries, stop off at Liverpool ONE for a bit of retail therapy – maybe a weekend gift for the bride-to-be? – grab a bite to eat at the relaxed neighbourhood pasta place Buyers Club, and finish the evening at Camp and Furnace for a warehouse space with cocktails, DJs and live music every weekend.

Or if the bride prefers something a little quieter and more sophisticated, make a beeline for Llandudno's Bodysgallen Hall for a spa day followed by a delicious afternoon tea and a wander around the award-winning gardens.

Liverpool ONE

For the 2027-28 wedding

If you're looking for an elegant venue with a Michelin-recommended restaurant...

Palé Hall (closest station is Bala) is a Relais & Châteaux country house set in the lush, forested Dee Valley and boasts spectacular views of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia). If it was good enough for Queen Victoria in 1889, we’re sure it would be spectacular for your wedding.

If you're looking for a romantic historical setting with stellar wedding credentials...

Bodysgallen Hall (closest station is Llandudno) is the one for you. Now we’ve already mentioned this one, but it’s just too good a venue not to be included. One of the most prestigious addresses in North Wales – their motto is “O’r Môr i’r Mynydd” (From the Mountains to the Sea), and it’s not hard to see why.

If you're looking for a blend of sweeping landscaping and unique charm...

Soughton Hall (closest station is Flint) has been featured as an exclusive wedding venue in Vogue, which ought to tell you all you need to know. Soughton has a distinctive energy to its grounds and house – a somewhat Eastern charm which is probably a result of its previous owner, William John Bankes, who commissioned Sir Charles Barry to create a “showpiece” house inspired by the Islamic and Moorish designs he had seen on his travels.

For The Romantic Anniversary

Let the train take the strain so you can be present together on the way to your romantic destination – picture the rolling Welsh countryside slipping away behind your train window.

For outdoorsy nature lovers, there's no place better than Fairy Glen in Eryri National Park (Snowdonia). Hop on at Llandudno Junction and the Conwy Valley Line takes you straight there. True to the name, it's a hidden rocky gorge nestled within an ancient forest, cut through with a clear, fast-flowing stream – truly worthy of the descriptor “enchanting”

If you're picturing a romantic sunset, hop off at Anglesey and enjoy the west-facing Rhosneigr beach with a light picnic.

For dinner, The Kinmel Arms in St George is worth the trip – a boutique inn with candlelit dining that feels casually romantic without trying too hard. Abergele & Pensarn station is your stop.
