Life in Design - Lucy Goddard
We meet one of the Creative Directors from NoChintz in Manchester
What inspired you to create your design business?
A desire to work with clients to create beautiful spaces.
How would you describe your design style?
I like things paired back. A nod to simple Scandinavian design but with a sense of Dutch humour.
What is the easiest way to transform a space?
Lighting can transform a space. It sets a tone and transitions you from day to night.
What do you see as being the design trends this year?
Our consciousness around the environmental impact of our actions has started to shape how we are designing and what materials we are using. Wellness is also at the core of our design awareness - creating spaces that perform and nourish as opposed to just looking nice.
What’s your favourite architectural style?
I like Nordic design. Understated, with a familiarity thats incites that feeling of coming home.
Can you describe your average weekend?
I’m a mum to 3 kids so it generally starts at 5am with lots of coffee. Then some serious logistics and programming to feed their insatiable appetite for good food, creative stimulation and the latest Netflix, before an early night!
What’s your favourite colour and why?
Grey. There is many shades to work with to create a subtly which can produce calming yet dramatic spaces.
If you had just one item in your design toolbox, what would it be?
Product knowledge. A piece of furniture tells a story, a brief history of design and a study into form. It can create a statement or bring function. The right piece of furniture can determine the success or failure of a space.
If you could banish something from the world of design, what would it be?
I would banish anyone using the word ‘funky’.
